Bailieborough Bridewell Visitors Centre – Gateway to Ulster’s Heritage
The historic Bailieborough Bridewell is more than just a former jail, it’s a living chronicle of local history that now serves as County Cavan’s newest cultural destination. Constructed in 1833 as an addition to the Bailieborough Courthouse, this carefully restored building once housed those awaiting trial or held for minor offences, with the Keeper and his family living directly above the cells until its closure as a jail in 1900.
Recently the Bridewell has been transformed into an engaging visitor’s centre and museum.
Among the centre’s most treasured exhibits is the remarkable Corrowdownan Manuscript from 161. Bearing the Great Seal of the King and the signature of Queen Anne of Denmark.
The centre’s merchandise area offers locally-sourced crafts, historical books, and commemorative items, while exhibition tickets provide access to this fascinating journey through Ulster’s complex heritage.
Ciaran Galligan, manager of the Bridewell Visitors Centre contacted Astec POS and asked for guidance on a Retail ePOS System that would serve the needs of the visitor’s centre.
